Here are five exclusive items to look for on Record Store Day 2023, including the album “Billy Joel, Live at the Great American Music Hall” released by Legacy Recordings.
This concert album had not been previously released and showcases a lesser-known period in Billy Joel’s career, specifically the tour supporting his third studio album, Streetlife Serenade.
The performance was recorded at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco and features a band that includes British horn player Johnny Almond, longtime bassist Doug Stegmeyer, and drummer Rhys Clark, who was a fixture on Joel’s early records.
What makes this gig special is that it includes the earliest known versions of some of Billy Joel’s most well-known songs, such as “James” and “New York State of Mind,” both of which would later appear on his 1976 album “Turnstiles.”
Additionally, you’ll hear Billy’s classic humor as he playfully pokes fun at contemporaries like Elton John, Leon Russell, and Joe Cocker in between songs.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts released the album “Up Your Alley” in 1988, which was considered one of their best albums.
It includes the hit song “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Joan co-wrote three songs with hard rock hitmaker Desmond Child, including “Little Liar” and “You Want In, I Want Out.”
The band also covered Chuck Berry’s “Tulane” and The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog.”
The album will be re-released on Record Store Day 2023, with only 2,200 copies available on lemonade yellow vinyl.
Scott Weiland’s solo debut album, “12 Bar Blues,” was created during a time when he was struggling with drug addiction.
However, with the help of several artists, including Sheryl Crow, Weiland was able to create a beautiful and unique album.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album’s release, Rhino is reissuing “12 Bar Blues” for the first time on vinyl.
The album includes previously unreleased studio outtakes and an acoustic version of the lead single “Barbarella.”
There will be 4,000 copies available on blue and green vinyl.
For fans who missed out on The Cure’s North American tour, the 1993 live album “Show” will be released for the first time on vinyl.
This double picture disc edition was recorded at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Mich., during the band’s 1992 Wish tour and has been beautifully remastered.
Pearl Jam’s special live album “Give Way” was recorded during the band’s Yield tour in 1998 and was originally intended to be a giveaway with the purchase of the Single Video Theory VHS tape at Best Buy.
However, the promotion was shelved, and only a few copies were released. The album includes live versions of several classics, including “Given To Fly,” “Do The Evolution,” “Alive,” and “Evenflow.”
